Happy Valentine's Day loves, or Galentine's Day if you're flying solo like me! No matter which day you're celebrating, why let an excuse to dress up and feel confident go to waste? I'm not about to!
DRESS - FLEUR DU MAL
THIGH-HIGHS - TARGET
BOOTIES - STEVE MADDEN
JACKET - FOREVER 21
LIPLINER - RIMMEL - EPIC
At the end of the day, I dress for myself, just as everyone should. No one should dictate what you can and cannot wear, and everyone should accept your choices as long as they're not hurting anyone. No one should feel like they have to look a certain way to please others, especially not on a commercial holiday. *mini rant over*
Just because I'm flying solo doesn't mean I can't put on a sexy little slip for myself! So that's exactly what I did - but I made it a little more wearable for going out and about in February. Up here on the northeast coast, February is brutal. Ironic being the 'month of love'. This slip is from Fleur Du Mal and it's made from silk so it feels super luxurious on your skin. Similar ones can be found at Nordstrom or even Forever 21 since slip dresses have been in style for ages now. I especially love this one because of the mauve-y pink color. I'm not the biggest fan of color, as some of you may have noticed, so this neutral shade of pink makes for the perfect way to incorporate some color. Since it's super cold out and I am literally ALWAYS cold, stockings or tights is necessary! I chose these thigh-highs because the lace trim at the top adds a feminine and intimate touch. They're only visible to me, as they go all the way up my leg, but that's the point. It's kind of like my sexy little secret secret weapon. The faux shearling jacket is the perfect way to keep in the warmth and make this luxurious slip a little more casual for during the day. Adding a touch of jean to any outfit will bring it down a notch. Finally for shoes, I went with some killer booties from Steve Madden with about a 4in heel and lacing up the front. They really give the whole look some edge.
I'm totally an anti-Valentine's day girl boss kinda person. Not because I'm without a Valentine - I would be this way if I had one too - just because I feel like there shouldn't be one day of the year that you can really show someone you care. And also that people really shouldn't get down about not having someone to spend this day with. *gets personal here* Being alone is something that I have really struggled with but recently I have just kept telling myself I am not alone. I have friends and family and I am eternally grateful for that! So I wanted to do a look for Valentine's day that is all about embracing yourself and using clothes as a way of enhancing confidence because, as I always say (or maybe someone else said this and I internalized it lol) you have to love yourself first, and then others will follow after.
